I had the opportunity to hunt pheasants in North Dakota last weekend for the first time. UNBELIEVABLE! I saw more birds in two days than I have my entire life combined.

I always thought of SD as the pheasant hunting capital of the world. Were you hunting private or public land?

12,000 acres of private land. We tried a few "PLOT's" (public land) on Monday before we left and only jumped a few birds.

That's good to know. I would hate to plan a trip and set my expectations to high.

Is it pretty easy to gain access to the private land or do you really need to know someone?

We didn't knock any doors while out there but there are lots of "P.L.O.T.s" land available to hunt. You can pick up a map at any gas station when you enter the state. We did go to the local Pheasants Forever banquet while out there and generally the people we spoke too were willing to provide info on where to try and what to do.
