Chokes

What is a good choke for late season pheasant hunting on a 12 gauge?

I always like to go with a modifed choke. It opens up nice, but you can still get a little bit of distance with it.

On the other hand, cover is usally not the best late in the season. Birds will have more of a tenancy to flush wild. A full choke would get you more distance.

I agree with steelhead I like a modified or improved modified if you have one,....it also depends on the situation are you hunting with pointers or flushers, preserve or natural birds, good cover or poor,...and how pressured the area is your hunting. The more of these variables that you have to consider the tighter choke you should use. The other thing you can do is go to a bigger shot size for more distance and energy late season I usually swith to #5's and use #6''s or 7.5's early when you are getting the closer birds.
