So would that be the same for partridge then that cracked corn is better than whole corn?

If you are feeding corn to your birds, don't put it in with your normal feed. Like gamebird says--it's like candy to them. They will kick feed out of feeders onto the ground and only eat the corn if you mix it in at all. Once the feed is on the ground, unless the birds eat it immediately (unlikely considering they are kicking it out of the feeder to eat the corn), chances are it will get wet, and mold; effectively making it no good. I just throw corn directly on the ground in smaller portions. Birds will typically eat all the corn they can before they touch a single bit of man-made feed. There is such a thing as too fat a bird though. They can even get to the point where they can't fly and are just lazy. So be careful.
