I have heard of chukar and quail being raised on wire but do they start the chicks out on wire, and what about pheasants and ducks can they be raised on wire? Will they feather out and be able to fly assuming the pen is large enough for flight?

quail and chukar are raised on wire to prevent worms,....you can raise pheasants on wire but they have a tend too be more nervous and pick at each other if overcrowded. Generally they are started on the floor and then moved to wire because there feet will fall through the wire. Yes they will be able to fly, being in good health and of good genetics is more important then the type of facility they are raised in,...flight is the last resort for a pheasant to escape danger.

It has also been my experience you will get some deformed beaks and feet when raising birds on wire.
