Again it really varies depending on the breed,....I haven't seen any current studies on the subject and can only go by my experience breeding birds. What I have experienced is the more wild the bloodline is the more that temperature as a secdonary trigger influences the onset of laying. In very domesticated lines of pheasants temperature plays no role at all and I have seen birds come into production with 12 hours of light in sub-freezing temperatures.

Generally the factors necessary for production is Age, health, nutrition, stimulatory light, then temperature there are other influences but they are minor

good to know.

I'll have to do some experimenting.

Again it varies by sub species and to the degree it affects a bloodline hasn't been really studied indepth that I have seen yet. The other major factors are age and health. They have to be old enough to be sexualy mature and good enough health to go through the physiological changes.

So what age is considered "sexualy mature" for a pheasant?

Again there is no standard for tempatures role in the onset of lay it depends on the species and its prefered habitat,....pheasants from more tropical areas would be different then ones from a more temperant area
